DURRESS
05/09/2026
We hired a driver to do a day trip to Durres which is on the coast about 50 minutes west of Tirana. Durres is Albania's second-largest city and is famous for its nearly 3,000-year history. Durres was founded in 627 BC by Greek colonists from Corinth and Corcyra (modern-day Corfu).
We were dropped off by our driver and had a couple hours to do a walking tour and check out the town. On our tour, we actually met a couple from Montana who had moved there permanently and loved it. I don’t know that it’s a “must see”, but it is a pretty nice town.
After we finished up in Durres, we visited a winery which was pretty awesome. They used bomb shelters for their wine production and aging!! Definitely the best use for an Albanian bomb shelter we had seen!!!
