Overall assessment of Vlore and Berat -
Vlore - There is really no good reason to see Vlore. It has a beautiful coast line and is clean and safe, but that’s not enough to make it worth a visit. All of Albania is clean and safe, and the entire coast is beautiful. So there is really nothing special about the town of Vlore. The Llogara pass, however, should not be missed if traveling by car through Albania. It is stunning (if it is sunny). It’s about 1 hour south of Vlore.
Berat - We would consider Berat a must see for anyone visiting Albania. It was beautiful and historic. We loved the cobbled streets, architecture, surrounding mountain views, and different parts of town. If traveling in the winter, we were told they have a fantastic Christmas market in November and December which sounds fun. The town is very small, so only needs a couple days, but definitely deserves more than just a day trip, especially if you want to hit any of the famous wineries in the surrounding area.
