Baden

We took the train about an hour south of Vienna to Baden, which had the potential to be a nice day trip, but it honestly ended up being a bit of a bust. We went on a Sunday and almost everything was closed. Additionally, we had cloudy weather and it drizzled a few times. We did our best to make the most of it, but it was kind of a disappointment.
The little town was very cute, but with everything closed, we just snapped a photo of the main square and moved on. Baden is known for the beautiful rose garden which we skipped because of the crappy weather.
Baden is also known for its healing thermal springs, it is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site as one of the "Great Spa Towns of Europe." Because of his many health issues, Beethoven spent a lot of time in Baden. We visited the Beethoven Haus where he stayed three summers. It was pretty interesting, but not enough so to justify the trip there from Vienna.
I had also mapped out a little walking tour to visit 3 Heuriger's in town that I had thoroughly researched to ensure they would be open. Only one of the three was open – so frustrating! So we got a lot of steps in, but the “tour” definitely didn’t go as planned! We found another one that was open that wasn’t on the list, so were able to visit two. And both were actually really good. So at least that worked out somewhat ok.
