Overall Assessment of Gdansk

We LOVED Gdansk! Poland doesn’t tend to make it on a lot of people’s travel bucket list, but it really should! Gdansk is beautiful! The people are nice, it is safe, English is widely spoken, and it is reasonably priced (by US standards). We did multiple walking tours, a boat tour, a few day trips, and there are endless good restaurants… it really is amazing.

The one down side could be the weather. We had kind of crummy weather our first week (unpredictable rain and clouds most days), but everyone told us it was not normal. We then had really nice weather our second two weeks, so perhaps the rainy days really were a fluke! We were there during St. Dominic’s festival which is the largest festival in Europe. It runs for three weeks and has been held annually for 760 years (except 1940-1972 due to WWII and Communism)! There were over a thousand vendors, and many streets were closed to traffic. It definitely meant there were more tourists than usual, but we still thought it was a great time to be there!
