Haro

Haro is about 1.5 hours straight south of Bilbao. It is known as the wine capital of the Rioja region… so it probably comes as no surprise to anyone that we loved this little town!
Haro is a great little town packed with wineries and tasting rooms within easy walking distance from the train station. We took the bus rather than the train because it was a good bit cheaper and we don’t mind the 15 minute walk to get into town. If you don’t care what you spend and aren’t worried about getting in your daily steps, then I would suggest the train. We got a later start than we had hoped due to several public transportation blunders when trying to get to the bus station. So rather than arriving in Haro at 12:00 as originally planned, we didn’t get there until about 1:30.
So we had A LOT to do in a short period of time! And many of the wineries close at 3:00… YIKES!! We had our list of wineries in order of closing time and hit the ground running (literally). Our first 3 stops we pretty much slammed a glass of wine and moved on. Our final stop was open until 5:30, so we were able to hang out and have some snacks and a few glasses of wine. It was an amazing place with a pretty patio and delicious wine and food. It was perfect. Four hours, four wineries, six glasses of wine… not bad! 😊
