Overall assessment of Phu Quoc -
Phu Quoc was a great way to end our 10 weeks in Vietnam. We spent most of our time just chilling on the beach and relaxing. The weather was perfect every day and we really enjoyed our time here. I would highly recommend throwing Phu Quoc on a Southeast Asia itinerary. Our biggest challenge was finding lodging, so if you ever plan to go, book lodging early!
Vietnam as a whole was definitely worth the trip, but I’m not sure we feel like we need to return. We saw a lot, and there was a lot we liked, but also plenty of things that we got kind of tired of.
We liked: 1. The prices (of course); 2. The people; 3. How safe it was everywhere; 4. Learning the interesting history; 5. How beautiful many places were (Mai Chau, Lan Ha Bay, Ninh Binh, and the coast/beaches)
We got tired of: 1. The trash everywhere: 2. The challenges crossing the road; 3. The scooters and non stop honking; 4. The gross food/dead animals in random places; 5. The people… Ok, I know I said we liked the people, and we did, but the culture has some boundary differences that got a little irritating at times. They could be a bit “in your business” when trying to be helpful (i.e. following 2 feet behind you throughout stores, standing over you when you are reading a menu, etc.)
