Doi Inthanon National Park

We did a day trip about 1.5 hours Southwest of Chiang Mai to Doi Inthanon National Park which contains the highest peak in Thailand at 2,565 meters. The park is about 180 square miles and in addition to the highest peak, is also known for the twin Pagodas, some impressive waterfalls, and great hiking trails.
Our first stop was the Wachirathan Waterfall. It was pretty incredible!
The next stop was the highest point of Thailand which was pretty anticlimactic! There was a sign indicating it is the highest point of the country and a shrine and the ashes of a dead king. That’s about it.
The next stop was the Twin Pagodas which were built to commemorate the 60th birthdays of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (in 1987) and Queen Sirikit (in 1992). They are located near the summit and surrounded by beautiful gardens and offer panoramic views. They are beautiful… or “Buddah-ful” as my clever husband would say!
Finally, we hiked the Pha Dok Siew Trail. It was a short easy hike that passed multiple waterfalls and rice terraces. The trail begins at the village of Pha Dok Siew and ends at a local Karen community where they serve you local coffee that they have grown. One of the local tribes women came along to guide us. It was an outstanding hike.
